Thanks to a generous grant from The NRA Foundation, we are pleased to offer the NRA’s FIRST STEPS Rifle Course to the youth of our community. A $5 fee helps defray the cost of ammunition and ensures that the Club can continue to hold these classes. Classes will be held based on demand.

Youth firearms safety courses are open to ages 12 through 17. The instructors are NRA Certified and are running this youth program as volunteers. During the four-hour introduction for new shooters, participants will learn the basics of safe handling, operation, basic marksmanship, and proper cleaning and storage of the 22 caliber bolt-action rifle.

Youth and adult courses for pistol and rifle are scheduled during the warmer months. Boy Scouts are encouraged to contact the Club in regard to Rifle Shooting Merit Badge. Youth interested in the Rifle Shooting Merit Badge will have a separate class, however there is not nearly enough range time to complete the badge.

What will you learn in an NRA FIRST STEPS course?

The NRA Basic Courses provide hands on learning opportunities in the following areas:
  • safe firearm handling
  • firearm parts and operation
  • using the correct ammunition
  • shooting fundamentals and an opportunity to develop them on the range
  • how to clean and store a firearm
  • review of various activities available to help participants develop and improve their shooting skills
The FIRST STEPS training programs for new shooters provide hands-on orientation to one specific rifle, pistol or shotgun model.
